Crochet sack or bolero for baby
Crocheting a sack or bolero for a baby can be a fun and rewarding project. Here are the basic steps to make one:

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (choose a soft, washable yarn in your desired color)
  • Crochet hook (size G/4mm or H/5mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  1. Crocheted Sack:
  • Begin by making a chain that is the same length as the desired width of the sack, plus a few extra chains for the turning chain. For example, if you want the sack to be 12 inches wide, make a chain that is around 80 chains long.
  • Work double crochet stitches into the fourth chain from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 3 and turn your work.
  • Work double crochet stitches into each stitch across. Chain 3 and turn your work.
  • Repeat step 3 until you have the desired length for the sack. This may be different depending on the size of the baby, but a good estimate is around 18-20 inches for a newborn size.
  • Once you have reached the desired length, fold the piece in half with the right sides facing each other. Using your tapestry needle and the same yarn you used for the sack, sew the sides of the sack together, leaving a small opening at the top for the baby's head. Weave in any remaining ends.
  1. Crocheted Bolero:
  • Begin by making a chain that is the same length as the width of the baby's back, plus a few extra chains for the turning chain. For example, if the baby's back is 8 inches wide, make a chain that is around 60 chains long.
  • Work double crochet stitches into the fourth chain from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 3 and turn your work.
  • Work double crochet stitches into each stitch across. Chain 3 and turn your work.
  • Repeat step 3 until the piece is the same length as the baby's arm, usually around 6-7 inches for a newborn size.
  • To create the armhole, fold the piece in half with the right sides facing each other. Using your tapestry needle and the same yarn you used for the bolero, sew the sides of the bolero together, leaving a small opening at the top for the armhole. Weave in any remaining ends.
Congratulations! You have now crocheted a sack or bolero for a baby.
