Knit a Baby Vest: Spiral Embossed Model

How to Knit a Baby Vest: Spiral Embossed Model

If you're looking for a fun and unique knitting project, you might want to try making a spiral embossed model baby vest. This adorable little garment is a great way to show off your knitting skills, while also keeping a special little one cozy and stylish.

To get started, you'll need a few basic knitting supplies:

  • Worsted weight yarn in your choice of color
  • Size 8 knitting needles
  • A stitch marker
Once you have your supplies, you're ready to get started on your vest.

Step 1: Cast On Stitches

Cast on 68 stitches using your size 8 needles and your choice of yarn color. Then, join in the round being careful not to twist your stitches. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of your round.

Step 2: Knit the First Few Rows

For the first few rows of your vest, you'll be knitting in a simple rib pattern. Knit 1, purl 1 for the first two rows, then switch to knitting every stitch for the next few rows. This will create a nice stretchy band at the bottom of your vest.

Step 3: Start the Spiral Pattern

Next, you'll start the spiral pattern. Knit 1, then purl 2 together, yarn over, and then purl the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around your row.

On the next row, knit all the knit stitches and purl all the purl stitches. When you come to a yarn over stitch, simply knit into the back of the loop to close it up.

Step 4: Continue the Spiral Pattern

Repeat the spiral pattern until your vest measures approximately 8 inches from the bottom edge. Then, you'll begin the armhole shaping.

Step 5: Shape the Armholes

On your next round, knit 26 stitches and then slip them onto a stitch holder. Knit to the end of the round, and then knit the first 26 stitches on the next round. Slip these stitches onto another stitch holder.

Continue knitting in the spiral pattern for a few more inches until the armhole measures approximately 4 inches. Then, you'll begin shaping the neckline.

Step 6: Shape the Neckline

Knit to the center of the front of your vest, and then knit 2 stitches together. Yarn over and then knit the rest of the stitches on that round. On the next round, knit all the way around the vest.

Repeat this pattern, knitting 1 stitch less before the knit 2 together on each round until you have 6 stitches remaining. Bind off your stitches, and weave in the ends.

And there you have it! Your very own spiral embossed model baby vest. Not only is this vest super cute, but it's also a great way to practice your knitting skills and create something special for a little one in your life.
