How to Knit an Ivy Model Baby Vest

How to Knit an Ivy Model Baby vest with Two Needles

If you're looking for a fun and easy knitting project, a baby vest is a great place to start. Not only are they quick to make, but they also make great gifts for any new parents in your life. In this tutorial, we'll be teaching you how to knit an Ivy Model Baby Vest with just two needles.

What You'll Need

  • 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn
  • Size 8 knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Instructions

Step 1: Cast On

To start your baby vest, cast on 60 stitches.

Step 2: Knit the Ribbing

For the ribbing, you will work in a k1, p1 pattern for the first 4 rows.

Step 3: Knit the Body

Next, you will knit the body of the vest. Using the stockinette stitch, knit every row until the vest measures 5 inches from the cast-on edge.

Step 4: Add the Ivy Stitch Pattern

The Ivy stitch pattern is a simple yet elegant way to add texture to your baby vest. To start, work the first row in knit stitches.

On the second row, purl all stitches.

On the third row, knit the first stitch, then *p1, k1* until the end of the row.

On the fourth row, purl the first stitch, then *k1, p1* until the end of the row.

Repeat these four rows until the Ivy stitch pattern measures 3 inches.

Step 5: Knit the Body Again

After completing the Ivy stitch pattern, switch back to the stockinette stitch and knit every row until the vest measures 8 inches from the cast-on edge.

Step 6: Knit the Neckline

Next, you'll knit the neckline. To do this, divide your stitches in half and work each half separately.

For the first half, knit 20 stitches, then bind off 20 stitches, and knit the last 20 stitches.

Repeat this process for the second half of the neckline.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Finally, sew the shoulder seams together using a yarn needle. Then, sew the side seams together, leaving armholes open.

And that's it! Your Ivy Model Baby Vest is complete and ready to keep your little one cozy and stylish.

Remember, knitting is all about practice, so don't get discouraged if your first attempt isn't perfect. Just keep practicing and you'll be knitting like a pro in no time!
