Cheddar Cheese Rolls Directions:
Combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl and let stand for 10 minutes, until frothy and bubbly.
Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture.
Mix with a wooden spoon for 1 minute, until combined.
Add the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time until a soft dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased large bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and roll it into a 12x16-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the dough.
Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a 16-inch log.
Slice the log into 12 equal rolls.
Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Bake on the center rack for 22 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Mix the 2 tbsp melted butter with the garlic powder in a small bowl.
Brush the hot rolls with the garlic butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
Let the rolls rest for 5 minutes before serving warm.
