How to Knit a Ruffle-Patterned Baby Cardigan with Two Needles

If you're looking for a cute and unique baby cardigan to knit, why not try making one with a ruffle pattern? This cardigan is perfect for keeping your little one warm and stylish, and it's easy to knit with just two needles. Follow our step-by-step guide below to make your own.

Materials You'll Need:

  • 4 skeins of baby weight yarn
  • Size 6 (4 mm) straight knitting needles
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • 3 buttons

Instructions:

Step 1: Cast On and Knit the Back

Cast on 58 stitches and knit the back piece of the cardigan in garter stitch (knit every row) until it measures 8 inches from the cast-on edge. Bind off all stitches.

Step 2: Knit the Two Fronts

For the fronts, cast on 30 stitches for each side and work in garter stitch until each front measures 7 inches from the cast-on edge. Bind off all stitches.

Step 3: Knit the Sleeves

For the sleeves, cast on 26 stitches and work in garter stitch until the sleeves measure 6 inches from the cast-on edge. Then, increase 1 stitch at each end of every other row until there are 44 stitches on the needle. Continue knitting until the sleeves measure 8 inches from the cast-on edge. Bind off all stitches.

Step 4: Sew the Sleeves to the Back and Fronts

With a tapestry needle, sew the sleeves to the back and fronts, leaving the underarm seam open. Use stitch markers to keep the pieces aligned.

Step 5: Knit the Ruffle Pattern

Now it's time to knit the ruffle pattern. Starting at the right front edge, pick up and knit 86 stitches evenly along the front edge, across the back neck, and down the left front edge. Place a stitch marker at the center back neck.

Row 1: *Knit 2, purl 2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, knit 2.

Row 2: Knit all stitches.

Row 3: *Purl 2, knit 2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, purl 2.
