How to Knit a Horizontal Floral Model baby sweater with Two Skewers
Knitting is not only a relaxing and fulfilling hobby, but it also allows you to create unique and personalized garments for your loved ones. A horizontal
floral model baby sweater is the perfect way to add some charm and personality to your baby's wardrobe. If you're new to knitting, don't worry! With just
two skewers and some basic knowledge, you can create a beautiful
sweater for your little one.
What You'll Need:
- 2 skeins of baby yarn (in the color of your choice)
- Size 7 knitting skewers
- A tapestry needle
Step 1: Cast on
Using the long-tail cast on method, cast on 70 stitches. Divide the stitches evenly onto your two skewers (35 stitches per skewer). Join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches.
Step 2: Knit the Ribbing
Using a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing
pattern, knit for 1 inch (or about 6 rounds).
Step 3: Knit the Body
Switch to your floral
pattern (see below) and continue knitting until the body of the sweater measures 7 inches (or about 42 rounds).
Step 4: Divide for Sleeves
Using scrap yarn, place the first 18 stitches onto a piece of scrap yarn or stitch holder. Knit the next 34 stitches, and then place the last 18 stitches onto another piece of scrap yarn or stitch holder.
Step 5: Knit the Sleeves
Rejoin your working yarn and knit each sleeve back and forth, adding 2 stitches to each side of the sleeve every other row until you have 24 stitches on each sleeve. Continue knitting until the sleeves measure 6 inches (or about 36 rounds).
Step 6: Join the Sleeves and Body
Remove the scrap yarn from both sets of sleeve stitches and place all the stitches onto one skewer. Join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches. Knit one round even.
Step 7: Knit the Yoke
Switch back to your floral pattern and knit until the yoke measures 2 inches (or about 12 rounds).
Step 8: Bind Off
Bind off all stitches loosely.
