How to Knit Hackberry Model Baby Collar Vest

If you're looking for a cute and cozy vest to knit for your little one, the Hackberry Model Baby Collar Vest is the perfect choice. With its stylish collar and simple design, this vest is sure to keep your baby warm and looking adorable.

What You'll Need

Before you get started, you'll need a few supplies:

  • Worsted weight yarn in the color of your choice
  • Size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles
  • A tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • A pair of scissors
  • 4 stitch markers

Getting Started

Start by casting on 60 stitches. Then, knit 8 rows in garter stitch (knit every stitch). This will form the base of the vest.

Next, you'll start working on the body of the vest. Knit 22 stitches, place a stitch marker, knit 16 stitches, place a stitch marker, knit 22 stitches. This will help you keep track of where the collar and front of the vest will be.

For the next row, knit to the first marker, then slip the marker, knit 2 stitches together, knit to the next marker, slip the marker, knit 2 stitches together, and then knit to the end of the row.

Repeat this decrease row every other row, until you have 40 stitches remaining on your needle. This will create the waist shaping for the vest.

Once you have reached the desired length for the body of the vest, it's time to work on the collar. Knit to the first marker, slip the marker, knit 18 stitches, and then turn your work.

Knit 6 stitches, then place the next 6 stitches on a stitch holder. Knit to the end of the row.

Next, you'll work on the collar shaping. Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, and then knit to the end of the row. Repeat this row until you have 4 stitches remaining on your needle.

Now it's time to rejoin the collar with the body of the vest. Pick up the 6 stitches from the stitch holder and knit them together with the last 6 stitches of the collar.

Knit to the next marker, and then repeat the collar shaping on the other side of the vest.

Finishing Touches

Now that the body and collar of the vest are complete, it's time to add the finishing touches. First, fold the vest in half and seam the sides using the tapestry needle and yarn.

Weave in any remaining ends and trim the excess yarn. Your Hackberry Model Baby Collar Vest is now ready to wear!

Conclusion

The Hackberry Model Baby Collar Vest is a cozy and stylish garment that your little one is sure to love. With a few basic supplies and some knitting know-how, you can create a vest that's both functional and fashionable.

Happy knitting!
