Easy socks making with two skewers
Here's a basic pattern for making a pair of easy socks with two knitting needles:

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (about 200-300 yards)
  • Size 7 (4.5mm) knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
Instructions:

Note: These socks are worked from the top down.

  1. Cast on 36 stitches. Divide the stitches onto two needles, with 18 stitches on each needle.
  2. Knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 2 inches (5 cm).
  3. Knit in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until the sock measures about 5 inches (12.5 cm) from the cast-on edge.
  4. Begin shaping the heel:
    • Row 1: Knit 14, knit 2 together, turn work.
    • Row 2: Slip 1 purlwise, purl 6, purl 2 together, turn work.
    • Row 3: Slip 1 purlwise, knit 6, knit 2 together, turn work.
    • Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have 18 stitches remaining on the heel.
  5. Pick up and knit 9 stitches along the side of the heel. Knit across the 18 stitches that were left unworked. Pick up and knit 9 stitches along the other side of the heel. Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
  6. Knit in the round until the sock measures about 2 inches (5 cm) from the bottom of the heel.
  7. Begin shaping the toe:
    • Round 1: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit to 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip marker, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit to 3 stitches before the end of the round, knit 2 together, knit 1.
    • Round 2: Knit all stitches.
    • Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have 8 stitches remaining (4 stitches on each needle).
  8. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and pull it through the remaining 8 stitches. Pull tight to close the toe and weave in the end.
  9. Repeat the pattern to make the second sock.
This basic pattern can be customized to fit different sizes by adjusting the number of stitches and the length of the sock. You can also add any desired embellishments or decorations to the socks, such as a crochet border or pom poms.
