Tunisian buckle making

The Tunisian simple stitch (TSS) is one of the basic Tunisian crochet stitches. Here's how to make it:

Begin by creating a foundation chain of the desired length.

Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook.

Yarn over (YO) the hook and pull up a loop. You should now have two loops on the hook.

Continue to insert your hook into each chain stitch and YO, pulling up a loop, until you reach the end of the row.

To begin the second row, turn your work and hold it so the back of the stitches is facing you.

Insert your hook under the second vertical bar on the front of the work (the vertical bar that is closest to you).

Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should now have two loops on the hook.

Repeat step 6 and 7 across the row, inserting your hook under each vertical bar until you reach the end of the row.

To finish the row, yarn over and pull through one loop on the hook, then yarn over again and pull through two loops on the hook. Repeat this process, yarning over and pulling through two loops, until only one loop remains on the hook.

Repeat steps 5-9 for each row until your work reaches the desired height.

That's the basic Tunisian simple stitch! Note that when you work the stitch, you will keep all the loops on the hook until you are ready to finish the row. The Tunisian simple stitch creates a fabric with a dense, woven texture that is perfect for a variety of projects.
