Crochet Baby Jacket or Sweater | 9 to 12 months

SUBSCRIBE

Crocheting a baby jacket or sweater for a 9 to 12-month-old can be a fun and rewarding project. Here are the basic steps to make one:

Materials Needed:

Yarn (choose a soft, washable yarn in your desired color)

Crochet hook (size G/4mm or H/5mm)

Scissors

Tapestry needle

Buttons (optional)

    Crocheted Baby Jacket/Sweater:

Begin by making a chain that is the same length as the desired width of the sweater/jacket, plus a few extra chains for the turning chain. For example, if you want the sweater to be 10 inches wide, make a chain that is around 70 chains long.

Work double crochet stitches into the fourth chain from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 3 and turn your work.

Work double crochet stitches into each stitch across. Chain 3 and turn your work.

Repeat step 3 until you have the desired length for the sweater/jacket. This may be different depending on the size of the baby, but a good estimate is around 12-14 inches for a 9-12 month size.

Next, you will begin the sleeves. Count 10-12 stitches from one edge of the sweater/jacket and attach your yarn with a slip stitch. Chain 3, then work double crochet stitches into the same stitch and the next 6-8 stitches (depending on the size of the sleeve you want). Chain 3 and turn your work.

Continue working double crochet stitches in each stitch across for the length of the sleeve, around 6-7 inches. Repeat this process for the second sleeve on the other side of the sweater/jacket.

Once both sleeves are complete, it's time to create the collar. Count 12-14 stitches from the edge of the sleeve and attach your yarn with a slip stitch. Chain 1 and single crochet in the same stitch and each stitch across until you reach the other sleeve. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Work single crochet stitches in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Repeat step 7 until the collar is the desired length, usually around 3-4 inches.

To finish the sweater/jacket, cut the yarn leaving a long tail, thread the tail through a tapestry needle, and weave it through the stitches along the edge of the sweater/jacket. Weave in any remaining ends. You can also add buttons to the front of the jacket if desired.

Congratulations! You have now crocheted a baby jacket or sweater for a 9 to 12-month-old.
