Simple Slouchy Sweater - Knitted Cardigan Pattern for Confident Beginners

What is the Simple Slouchy Sweater?

The Simple Slouchy Sweater is a free Knitting sweater pattern that has a relaxed fit and includes instructions for nine sizes. From X-Small to 5X, you can make this sweater in any size that you need!

The measurements needed to determine your size are:
Chest Circumference (measured around the fullest part of your chest)
Waist Circumference (measured around your natural waistline)

Gathering Supplies

Before you begin, you'll need to gather your supplies. You can use any type of yarn for this project, but I recommend a worsted weight yarn such as Red Heart Super Saver or Lion Brand Vanna's Choice. The finished sweater will be about 50 inches long and 20 inches wide when laid flat, so make sure you have enough yardage for your size!

For the hook size I used an H hook (5mm) which worked well with my chosen yarn; however if you plan on using a different brand or thickness than me then I suggest trying out different sizes until you find one that works best for your gauge. If you're not sure how much room there is between stitches on each row without counting them all off first then just follow along with whatever gauge is given in this pattern - it shouldn't make too much difference either way!

Stitches Used

*   Single crochet
*   Double crochet
*   Half double crochet
*   Chain stitch (ch)
*   Slip stitch (sl st)

Gauge

Gauge is the number of stitches and rows in a certain amount of space. For this project, I used an H (5mm) hook for my gauge. Check the label of your chosen yarn for its recommended hook size and use that to determine your own gauge.

Sizing

*   X-Small: Bust 32"/Waist 24"/Hip 34"
*   Small: Bust 34"/Waist 26"/Hip 36"
*   Medium: Bust 36"/Waist 28"/Hip 38"
*   Large: Bust 38"/Waist 30"/Hip 40

Crochet Instructions

*   Worked in two pieces: front and back panels
*   Sleeves are worked as separate pieces and seamed to body of sweater.
*   Neckline and cuffs finished with simple crochet bind-off technique.

Finishing Touches

*   Weave in any remaining ends.
*   Block if desired.

Tips for Success

*   Read through the pattern before you begin. This will help you to make sure that you understand what is expected of you, and how many stitches are needed for each row.
*   Use stitch markers to keep track of your rows, especially if this is your first sweater project. Stitch markers can be any object that has a hole in it (like safety pins), or they can be purchased at any craft store.
*   Take gauge measurements before beginning the project so that your finished sweater will fit properly!
