How to Knit Seashell Model Baby Vest

If you're looking for a fun and adorable knitting project for a little one in your life, a seashell model baby vest is the perfect choice! With its delicate lace pattern and sweet little buttons, this vest is sure to become a treasured item in any baby's wardrobe. Here's how to knit it:

Materials You'll Need

1 skein of baby yarn in a soft pastel color

US size 5 (3.75mm) knitting needles

4 small buttons

Tapestry needle

Step 1: Cast On Stitches

Cast on 70 stitches using your preferred method. This will form the back of the vest.

Step 2: Knit the Front Panels

Knit the first 20 stitches, then bind off 6 stitches. This will form the armhole. Knit to the end of the row, turn your work, and knit back to the armhole. Continue knitting back and forth in this manner until you have 24 stitches remaining on either side.

Next, you'll need to shape the neckline. Knit the first 6 stitches of the next row, then bind off 12 stitches. Knit to the end of the row, turn your work, and repeat the process for the next row. You should have 6 stitches remaining on either side of your work. Knit to the end of the row, then turn your work and knit back to the armhole.

Step 3: Knit the Back Panel

Knit across the 24 stitches of the back panel, then turn your work and knit back to the beginning of the row. Continue knitting back and forth in this manner until the back panel is the same length as the front panels.

Step 4: Sew the Shoulder Seams

Using your tapestry needle, sew the shoulder seams of the front and back panels together.

Step 5: Knit the Edging and Button Bands

With the right side facing you, pick up and knit stitches along the neckline and down the front edges of the vest. Knit in garter stitch (knit every row) for 6 rows, then bind off all stitches. Repeat this process for the other front edge of the vest.

Sew on the buttons to the front of the vest, opposite the buttonholes.

Step 6: Finish the Armholes

Pick up and knit stitches along the armhole edge of the vest. Knit in garter stitch for 3 rows, then bind off all stitches. Repeat this process for the other armhole.

Step 7: Weave in Ends and Block

Weave in any loose ends of yarn using your tapestry needle. Wet block your finished vest to even out the stitches and give it a professional finish.

And there you have it! A beautiful seashell model baby vest that will keep any little one cozy and stylish.
