How to Knit a Leaf Pattern Baby Sweater with Two Needles

Knitting a baby sweater is a wonderful way to show your love and care for the little one in your life. With just two needles and a skein of yarn, you can create a cozy and comfortable sweater that will keep your baby warm and stylish. If you're looking to add a little bit of charm and character to your baby's wardrobe, consider knitting a leaf pattern baby sweater!

What You'll Need:

2 skeins of baby yarn (in the color of your choice)

Size 6 knitting needles

A tapestry needle

Step 1: Cast on

Using the long-tail cast on method, cast on 60 stitches. Divide the stitches evenly onto your two needles (30 stitches per needle). Join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches.

Step 2: Knit the Ribbing

Using a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing pattern, knit for 1 inch (or about 5 rounds).

Step 3: Knit the Body

Switch to your leaf pattern (see below) and continue knitting until the body of the sweater measures 6 inches (or about 30 rounds).

Step 4: Divide for Sleeves

Using scrap yarn, place the first 15 stitches onto a piece of scrap yarn or stitch holder. Knit the next 30 stitches, and then place the last 15 stitches onto another piece of scrap yarn or stitch holder.

Step 5: Knit the Sleeves

Rejoin your working yarn and knit each sleeve back and forth, adding 2 stitches to each side of the sleeve every other row until you have 32 stitches on each sleeve. Continue knitting until the sleeves measure 6 inches (or about 30 rounds).

Step 6: Join the Sleeves and Body

Remove the scrap yarn from both sets of sleeve stitches and place all the stitches onto one needle. Join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches. Knit one round even.

Step 7: Knit the Yoke

Switch back to your leaf pattern and knit until the yoke measures 4 inches (or about 20 rounds).

Step 8: Bind Off

Bind off all stitches loosely.

The Leaf Pattern (continued):

Row 5: *Knit 3, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, repeat from * to end of round.

Row 6: *Purl 3, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, repeat from * to end of round.

Row 7: *Knit 4, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, repeat from * to end of round.

Row 8: *Purl 4, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, repeat from * to end of round.

Repeat these 8 rows for the leaf pattern.

Knitting a leaf pattern baby sweater may seem daunting at first, but with a little bit of patience and practice, you'll have a beautiful and unique garment that your baby will love wearing. This pattern is perfect for intermediate knitters who are looking for a challenge but still want to keep things manageable.
