How to Create a Simple Flower Embroidery Design

Embroidery is a timeless craft that has been enjoyed for centuries. With a needle, thread, and some fabric, you can create beautiful designs that will last a lifetime. If you're a beginner, it can be intimidating to start, but don't worry! We're going to show you how to create a simple flower embroidery design that's perfect for beginners.

What You'll Need:

Embroidery hoop

Embroidery floss in your desired colors

Embroidery needle

Fabric of your choice

Scissors

Pencil or disappearing ink pen

Instructions:

Step 1: Choose Your Design

There are many designs to choose from, but for this tutorial, we'll be creating a simple flower. You can find free patterns online or create your own. Once you've chosen your design, transfer it onto your fabric using a pencil or disappearing ink pen.

Step 2: Thread Your Needle

Choose your desired embroidery floss colors and cut a piece that's about 18 inches long. Separate out 2 or 3 strands of the floss and thread it through the eye of your embroidery needle.

Step 3: Start Stitching

There are many embroidery stitches you can use to create your design, but we'll be using the backstitch for the outline of our flower and the satin stitch for the petals.

Backstitch: Bring your needle up through the fabric at the starting point of your design. Insert your needle back down into the fabric a short distance away and bring it back up through the fabric a short distance from your starting point. Continue stitching along your design, inserting your needle back into the previous stitch as you go. This creates a solid line of stitches.

Satin Stitch: Bring your needle up through the fabric at the edge of one of your petals. Insert your needle back down into the fabric on the opposite edge of the petal, creating a straight stitch. Repeat this process, working your way down the petal, until it's completely filled in.

Step 4: Finish Your Design

Continue using your backstitch and satin stitch to complete your flower design. You can add more flowers or other elements to your design if you like. Once you're finished, knot the thread on the back of your fabric and trim any excess.
