Sweet and Spicy Baked Beans Directions:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F.
-
Open the cans of pork and beans and pour off half of the standing liquid.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the ketchup, barbecue sauce, mustard, brown sugar substitute, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and liquid smoke until combined. Set aside.
-
Heat a large 12-inch cast iron or oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon pieces and cook until partially done. Remove the bacon and set aside on a paper towel.
-
Add the diced onions to the bacon fat and cook for 2 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
-
Add the pork and beans into the skillet with the onions and garlic. Pour in the sauce mixture and stir until thoroughly combined.
-
Spread the mixture evenly in the skillet. Arrange the partially cooked bacon on top.
-
Bake for 1 hour or until the mixture is thick and bubbly. Switch the oven to broil and cook for another 2-3 minutes to crisp up the bacon.
-
Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley and serve warm.
