Peel sweet onions and slice them thinly from root to tip.

Arrange ham slices on top of the onions, overlapping slightly if needed.
Spoon some onions around the sides of the ham slices.
Cover and cook on LOW for 5–7 hours, or on HIGH for 3–4 hours, until ham is heated through and onions are soft and caramelized.
Let ham rest in the juices for 10 minutes.
Serve ham slices with sweet onions and pan juices spooned over the top.
