Saltine Caramel Chocolate Dessert Directions:

Lightly coat the inside of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray for easier cleanup. Do not preheat.
Lay the whole saltine crackers in a single, even layer on the bottom of the slow cooker. Break only a few if needed to fit around the edges.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and bring the mixture to a gentle bubble, stirring constantly.
Cook and stir for 2–3 minutes, until the mixture looks smooth, glossy, and slightly thickened.
Carefully pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it lightly with a heatproof spatula so most of the cracker surface is coated.
Cover and cook on LOW for 1–1 1/2 hours, until the caramel is bubbling lightly around the edges and the crackers have softened but still hold their shape.
Turn off the slow cooker and immediately sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel-covered crackers.
Place the lid back on and let the residual heat melt the chocolate for 10–15 minutes.
Once the chocolate chips are soft and glossy, gently spread the melted chocolate into a thin, even layer over the top.
Let the dessert cool with the lid off for 30–45 minutes, or until warm but not scorching hot. For firmer pieces, chill the removable insert or transfer the set layer carefully to the refrigerator for 1–2 hours before cutting.
Cut into small rustic squares once cooled and set, or spoon warm portions into bowls for a softer dessert.
If desired, finish the cooled chocolate layer with a very small pinch of flaky sea salt and a light scattering of finely chopped toasted nuts before serving.
