Layered Comfort Pasta Bake Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a deep 9-inch round glass baking dish with cooking spray.

  • Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until just tender. Drain well and set aside.

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 30 seconds.

  • Slowly whisk in the fat-free milk until a smooth, thick béchamel forms. Season with salt and a small pinch of nutmeg, then remove from heat.

  • Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and coat with cooking spray.

  • Add the onion and cook for 4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  • Add the ground beef and cook until fully browned. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Stir in the tomato sauce and simmer for 3 minutes until lightly thickened.

  • Spread a thin layer of béchamel on the bottom of the baking dish.
