Home Made Turkish Bread Directions:

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy and bubbly, indicating that the yeast is activated.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to incorporate the dry ingredients.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, gradually incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry until a dough forms.

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, you can add a little more flour as needed.

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air bubbles and transfer it back onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions, depending on how many loaves you’d like to make.

Shape each portion of dough into a round or oval-shaped loaf and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased with cooking spray. Cover the loaves with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Once the loaves have risen for the second time, uncover them and gently score the tops with a sharp knife or blade. This allows the bread to expand while baking. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove the baked Turkish bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy it warm with your favorite spreads, dips, or as a side to your favorite Turkish-inspired dishes.
