Hamburger Steaks with Onions Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking dish or rimmed sheet pan with aluminum foil, bringing the foil up the sides to catch the juices. Lightly coat the foil with cooking spray if desired.
Slice the onions into thin half-moons. Spread half of the sliced onions evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan.
Place the ground beef in a large bowl and sprinkle with kosher salt. Mix gently by hand until evenly combined without overworking the meat.
Divide the beef into 4 equal portions (each approximately 8 oz raw). Shape into oval patties 3/4 to 1 inch thick. Press a shallow indentation into the center of each patty.
Arrange the patties over the onions, spacing them slightly apart. Distribute the remaining onions over and around the patties.
Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the pan and spoon the collected juices over the patties.
Return to the oven and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until the patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) and the onions are soft and caramelized at the edges.
Rest for 5 minutes before serving. Spoon onions and pan juices over each patty before plating.
