Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the sausage for 4 minutes, turning once, until lightly browned.
Spread the sliced onions evenly in the bottom of a 5-quart slow cooker.
Layer the browned sausage over the onions.
Add the drained and rinsed kidney beans evenly over the sausage.
Pour the condensed beef broth evenly over the mixture without adding water.
Gently stir once to slightly combine while keeping layers visible.
Cover and cook on LOW for 7 hours or on HIGH for 3 1/2 hours until onions are very soft and the mixture has thickened.
